My Dad

My memories and tribute to my father

Alfred S. Dembrowski

On November 17, 2002, at about 10:20 in the morning at a local hospital, Helene Fuld Medical Center, in Trenton, New Jersey USA, one of the most important people I ever knew past into history. Arguably, he might have been the one person who's opinion and friendship meant more to me than anyone else's when it concerned my accomplishments and especially my artwork. He is the man that started me off in the love of art and the one I credit for becoming an artist in the first place. He is the person I depended on when I wanted to learn something new. Therefore, he deserves a special place on the web and so I've decided to make this memorial site to honor him.

Recently I requested my Mother to find all of the artwork that she can that no one else in the family might have claimed (I have one older sister and four younger brothers). Since I was the oldest boy I guess I had more time then any of the others to watch him work (career artist wasn't considered a girl thing back then), and by the time of the last three I don't think he was working much on his art, the family grew larger then would allow him to pursue his dream of becoming a commercial artist. Although we all have inherited a love of art and have all acquired talent in at least one area, the family always seemed to point at me and say "this one's the artist". Well, it had to come from somewhere and so you get to see where the art, and the science also because he was quite a "tinkerer", originated in "Dembrowski Art and Science". When Mom showed up a few Sundays ago with the little piece shown above I was tickled pink, to say the least. It brought back memories some forty years old. And after scanning it in I realized how appropriate it would be to use it as the banner for his home page! Cool, huh?

This is just one of the gems that were the essence of my Dad. This memorial area will grow as I collect and preserve more treasures and write about him myself in the future. There is a perpetual guest book that sister Sylvia and I are keeping alive online. If you were a personal friend of him please write something nice for the family. Many of us are online these days and would like to know who knew him.

Thanks for visiting this memorial (I love you, Dad)

Marty

  • Read the eulogy "My Dad" I wrote and orated at his funeral mass.
  • Read the words to the song "My Dad", a song by Paul Petersen © Colpix Records, that I performed at his funeral mass.
